1 إِذَا ذَهَبْتُمْ لِمُحَارَبَةِ عَدُوِّكُمْ، وَوَجَدْتُمْ أَنَّ عَدُوَّكُمْ أَكْثَرُ مِنْكُمْ عَدَداً وخَيْلاً وَمَرْكَبَاتٍ، فَلا تَخَافُوا مِنْهُ، لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمُ الَّذِي حَرَّرَكُمْ مِنْ دِيَارِ مِصْرَ يَقِفُ مَعَكُمْ. 2 وَعِنْدَمَا تَكُونُونَ عَلَى وَشْكِ خَوْضِ الْمَعْرَكَةِ يَتَقَدَّمُ الْكَاهِنُ وَيُخَاطِبُ الْجَيْشَ: 3 اسْمَعْ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ: أَنْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُوشِكُونَ عَلَى مُحَارَبَةِ أَعْدَائِكُمْ، فَلا تَهِنْ قُلُوبُكُمْ، لَا تَخَافُوا مِنْهُمْ وَلا تَرْتَعِدُوا وَلا تَرْهَبُوهُمْ، 4 لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ إِلَهَكُمْ سَائِرٌ مَعَكُمْ لِمُحَارَبَةِ أَعْدَائِكُمْ عَنْكُمْ، وَلِيُخَلِّصَكُمْ. 5 ثُمَّ يَقُولُ الْقَادَةُ لِلْجَيْشِ: هَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ مَنْ بَنَى بَيْتاً جَدِيداً وَلَمْ يُدَشِّنْهُ بَعْدُ؟ فَلْيَرْجِعْ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ، لِئَلّا يُقْتَلَ فِي الْمَعْرَكَةِ فَيُدَشِّنَهُ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ. 6 هَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ مَنْ غَرَسَ كَرْماً وَلَمْ يَجْنِ أَوَّلَ ثِمَارِهِ بَعْدُ؟ فَلْيَرْجِعْ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ لِئَلّا يُقْتَلَ فِي الْمَعْرَكَةِ فَيَجْنِيَ أَوَّلَ ثِمَارِ كَرْمِهِ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ. 7 هَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ رَجُلٌ خَطَبَ امْرَأَةً وَلَمْ يَتَزَوَّجْهَا بَعْدُ؟ لِيَرْجِعْ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ لِئَلّا يُقْتَلَ فِي الْمَعْرَكَةِ فَيَتَزَوَّجَهَا رَجُلٌ آخَرُ. 8 ثُمَّ يَسْتَطْرِدُ قَادَةُ الْجَيْشِ قَائِلِينَ: هَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ رَجُلٌ خَائِفٌ وَاهِنُ الْقَلْبِ؟ لِيَرْجِعْ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ لِئَلّا يَعْتَرِيَ الْخَوْفُ قُلُوبَ إِخْوَتِهِ مِثْلَهُ. 9 وَعِنْدَمَا يَفْرُغُ الْقَادَةُ مِنْ مُخَاطَبَةِ الْجَيْشِ، يُعَيِّنُونَ ضُبَّاطاً عَلَى الْجُنُودِ. 10 وَحِينَ تَتَقَدَّمُونَ لِمُحَارَبَةِ مَدِينَةٍ فَادْعُوهَا لِلصُّلْحِ أَوَّلاً. 11 فَإِنْ أَجَابَتْكُمْ إِلَى الصُّلْحِ وَاسْتَسْلَمَتْ لَكُمْ، فَكُلُّ الشَّعْبِ السَّاكِنِ فِيهَا يُصْبِحُ عَبِيداً لَكُمْ. 12 وَإِنْ أَبَتِ الصُّلْحَ وَحَارَبَتْكُمْ فَحَاصِرُوهَا 13 فَإِذَا أَسْقَطَهَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ فِي أَيْدِيكُمْ، فَاقْتُلُوا جَمِيعَ ذُكُورِهَا بِحَدِّ السَّيْفِ. 14 وَأَمَّا النِّسَاءُ وَالأَطْفَالُ وَالْبَهَائِمُ، وَكُلُّ مَا فِي الْمَدِينَةِ مِنْ أَسْلابٍ، فَاغْنَمُوهَا لأَنْفُسِكُمْ، وَتَمَتَّعُوا بِغَنَائِمِ أَعْدَائِكُمُ الَّتِي وَهَبَهَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ لَكُمْ. 15 هَكَذَا تَفْعَلُونَ بِكُلِّ الْمُدُنِ النَّائِيَةِ عَنْكُمُ الَّتِي لَيْسَتْ مِنْ مُدُنِ الأُمَمِ الْقَاطِنَةِ هُنَا. 16 أَمَّا مُدُنُ الشُّعُوبِ الَّتِي يَهَبُهَا الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ لَكُمْ مِيرَاثاً فَلا تَسْتَبْقُوا فِيهَا نَسَمَةً حَيَّةً، 17 بَلْ دَمِّرُوهَا عَنْ بِكْرَةِ أَبِيهَا، كَمُدُنِ الْحِثِّيِّينَ وَالأَمُورِيِّينَ وَالْكَنْعَانِيِّينَ وَالْفِرِزِّيِّينَ وَالْحِوِّيِّينَ وَالْيَبُوسِيِّينَ كَمَا أَمَرَكُمُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُكُمْ، 18 لِكَيْ لَا يُعَلِّمُوكُمْ رَجَاسَاتِهِمِ الَّتِي مَارَسُوهَا فِي عِبَادَةِ آلِهَتِهِمْ، فَتَغْوُوا وَرَاءَهُمْ وَتُخْطِئُوا إِلَى الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ. 19 وَإذَا حَاصَرْتُمْ مَدِينَةً حِقْبَةً طَوِيلَةً مُعْلِنِينَ الْحَرْبَ عَلَيْهَا لاِفْتِتَاحِهَا، فَلا تَقْطَعُوا أَشْجَارَهَا بِحَدِّ الْفَأْسِ وَتُتْلِفُوهَا لأَنَّكُمْ تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْ ثِمَارِهَا. هَلْ شَجَرَةُ الْحَقْلِ إِنْسَانٌ حَتَّى تَهْرُبَ مِنْ أَمَامِكُمْ فِي الْحِصَارِ؟ 20 أَمَّا الأَشْجَارُ الَّتِي لَا يُؤْكَلُ ثَمَرُهَا فَأَتْلِفُوهَا وَاقْطَعُوهَا، لاِسْتِخْدَامِهَا فِي بِنَاءِ حُصُونٍ حَوْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ الْمُحَاصَرَةِ الْمُتَحَارِبَةِ مَعَكُمْ، إِلَى أَنْ يَتِمَّ سُقُوطُهَا.

Norme relative al servizio militare

1 «Quando andrai alla guerra contro i tuoi nemici e vedrai cavalli, carri e gente più numerosa di te, non li temere, perché il Signore, il tuo Dio, che ti fece salire dal paese d’Egitto, è con te. 2 Quando sarete sul punto di dar battaglia, il sacerdote si farà avanti, parlerà al popolo 3 e gli dirà: “Ascolta, Israele! Voi state oggi per impegnare battaglia contro i vostri nemici; il vostro cuore non venga meno; non temete, non vi smarrite e non vi spaventate davanti a loro, 4 perché il Signore, il vostro Dio, è colui che marcia con voi per combattere per voi contro i vostri nemici e per salvarvi”. 5 Poi i responsabili parleranno al popolo e diranno: “C’è qualcuno che ha costruito una casa nuova e non l’ha ancora inaugurata? Vada, torni a casa sua, perché non muoia in battaglia e sia un altro a inaugurare la casa. 6 C’è qualcuno che ha piantato una vigna e non ne ha ancora goduto il frutto? Vada, torni a casa sua, perché non muoia in battaglia e sia un altro a godere il frutto della vigna. 7 C’è qualcuno che si è fidanzato con una donna e non l’ha ancora presa? Vada, torni a casa sua, perché non muoia in battaglia e un altro se la prenda”. 8 I responsabili parleranno ancora al popolo e diranno: “C’è qualcuno che ha paura e sente venir meno il cuore? Vada, torni a casa sua, affinché i suoi fratelli non si scoraggino come lui”. 9 Quando i responsabili avranno finito di parlare al popolo, si nomineranno degli ufficiali alla testa del popolo.

L’assedio delle città

10 «Quando ti avvicinerai a una città per attaccarla, le offrirai prima la pace. 11 Se acconsente alla pace e ti apre le sue porte, tutto il popolo che vi si troverà ti sarà tributario e soggetto. 12 Ma se essa non vuole far pace con te e ti vuole fare guerra, allora l’assedierai; 13 e quando il Signore, il tuo Dio, l’avrà data nelle tue mani, ne passerai a fil di spada tutti gli uomini; 14 ma le donne, i bambini, il bestiame e tutto ciò che sarà nella città, tutto il suo bottino, li prenderai come tua preda; e mangerai il bottino dei tuoi nemici, che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti avrà dato. 15 Così farai per tutte le città che sono molto lontane da te e che non sono città di queste nazioni. 16 Ma nelle città di questi popoli che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti dà come eredità, non conserverai in vita nulla che respiri, 17 ma voterai a completo sterminio gli Ittiti, gli Amorei, i Cananei, i Ferezei, gli Ivvei e i Gebusei, come il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti ha comandato di fare, 18 affinché essi non v’insegnino a imitare tutte le pratiche abominevoli che fanno per i loro dèi e voi non pecchiate contro il Signore Dio vostro. 19 Quando farai guerra a una città per conquistarla e la cingerai d’assedio per lungo tempo, non ne distruggerai gli alberi a colpi di scure; ne mangerai il frutto, ma non li abbatterai: l’albero della campagna è forse un uomo che tu debba includerlo nell’assedio? 20 Potrai però distruggere e abbattere gli alberi che saprai non essere alberi da frutto, e ne costruirai delle opere d’assedio contro la città che fa guerra contro di te, finché cada.

Laws Concerning Warfare

And you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the LORD your God has given you. 17 but you shall devote them to complete destruction,^[1] the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as the LORD your God has commanded, (تث 7:2) 18 that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices that they have done for their gods, and so you sin against the LORD your God. 19 “When you besiege a city for a long time, making war against it in order to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them. You may eat from them, but you shall not cut them down. Are the trees in the field human, that they should be besieged by you? (2مل 3:19; 2مل 3:25) 20 Only the trees that you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, that you may build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it falls.
