1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. 3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. 13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. (Mt 5:7; Mt 5:48; Lu 6:36; Eph 4:32) 2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ge 8:21; Joh 13:34; Ro 4:25; Ro 8:37; Ro 14:15; Col 3:14; Heb 7:27; Heb 9:14; Heb 10:10; Heb 10:12) 3 But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. (Ps 16:4; 1Co 6:18; Ga 5:19; Eph 5:12) 4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. 1 So ahmt nun Gott nach als geliebte Kinder (Lu 6:35) 2 und wandelt in der Liebe, wie auch Christus uns geliebt hat und hat sich selbst für uns gegeben als Gabe und Opfer, Gott zu einem lieblichen Geruch. (Ga 2:20) 3 Von Unzucht aber und jeder Art Unreinheit oder Habsucht soll bei euch nicht einmal die Rede sein, wie es sich für die Heiligen gehört, (Col 3:5) 4 auch nicht von schändlichem Tun und von närrischem oder losem Reden, was sich nicht ziemt, sondern vielmehr von Danksagung. (Eph 4:29) 5 Denn das sollt ihr wissen, dass kein Unzüchtiger oder Unreiner oder Habsüchtiger – das ist ein Götzendiener – ein Erbteil hat im Reich Christi und Gottes. (1Co 6:9; Ga 5:21) 6 Lasst euch von niemandem verführen mit leeren Worten; denn um dieser Dinge willen kommt der Zorn Gottes über die Kinder des Ungehorsams. (Col 3:6) 7 Darum seid nicht ihre Mitgenossen. 8 Denn ihr wart früher Finsternis; nun aber seid ihr Licht in dem Herrn. Wandelt als Kinder des Lichts; (Mt 5:14; Joh 12:36; 1Th 5:5; 1Pe 2:9) 9 die Frucht des Lichts ist lauter Güte und Gerechtigkeit und Wahrheit. (Ga 5:22; Php 1:11) 10 Prüft, was dem Herrn wohlgefällig ist, (Ro 12:2; Php 1:10) 11 und habt nicht Gemeinschaft mit den unfruchtbaren Werken der Finsternis; deckt sie vielmehr auf. 12 Denn was von ihnen heimlich getan wird, davon auch nur zu reden ist schändlich. 13 Das alles aber wird offenbar, wenn’s vom Licht aufgedeckt wird; (Joh 3:20) 14 denn alles, was offenbar wird, das ist Licht. Darum heißt es: Wach auf, der du schläfst, und steh auf von den Toten, so wird dich Christus erleuchten. (Isa 60:1; Isa 60:3; Joh 8:12; Ro 13:11) 15 So seht nun sorgfältig darauf, wie ihr euer Leben führt, nicht als Unweise, sondern als Weise, (Col 4:5) 16 und kauft die Zeit aus, denn die Tage sind böse. 17 Darum werdet nicht unverständig, sondern versteht, was der Wille des Herrn ist. 18 Und sauft euch nicht voll Wein, woraus ein unordentliches Wesen folgt, sondern lasst euch vom Geist erfüllen. (Lu 21:34) 19 Ermuntert einander mit Psalmen und Lobgesängen und geistlichen Liedern, singt und spielt dem Herrn in eurem Herzen (Ps 33:2; Col 3:16) 20 und sagt Dank Gott, dem Vater, allezeit für alles, im Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus. (1Th 5:18) 21 Ordnet euch einander unter in der Furcht Christi. (Php 2:3; Col 3:18; 1Pe 2:18) 22 Ihr Frauen, ordnet euch euren Männern unter wie dem Herrn. (Tit 2:5) 23 Denn der Mann ist das Haupt der Frau, wie auch Christus das Haupt der Gemeinde ist – er hat sie als seinen Leib gerettet. (1Co 11:3; Eph 1:22) 24 Aber wie nun die Gemeinde sich Christus unterordnet, so sollen sich auch die Frauen ihren Männern unterordnen in allen Dingen. 25 Ihr Männer, liebt eure Frauen, wie auch Christus die Gemeinde geliebt hat und hat sich selbst für sie dahingegeben, (Eph 2:1) 26 um sie zu heiligen. Er hat sie gereinigt durch das Wasserbad im Wort, (Tit 3:5; Heb 10:22) 27 damit er für sich die Gemeinde herrlich bereite, die keinen Flecken oder Runzel oder etwas dergleichen habe, sondern die heilig und untadelig sei. (2Co 11:2; Col 1:22) 28 So sollen auch die Männer ihre Frauen lieben wie ihren eigenen Leib. Wer seine Frau liebt, der liebt sich selbst. (Le 19:18) 29 Denn niemand hat je sein eigenes Fleisch gehasst; sondern er nährt und pflegt es wie auch Christus die Gemeinde. 30 Denn wir sind Glieder seines Leibes. (Ro 12:5) 31 »Darum wird ein Mann Vater und Mutter verlassen und an seiner Frau hängen, und die zwei werden ein Fleisch sein« (Ge 2:24) 32 Dies Geheimnis ist groß; ich deute es aber auf Christus und die Gemeinde. 33 Darum auch ihr: ein jeder liebe seine Frau wie sich selbst; die Frau aber habe Ehrfurcht vor dem Mann.

Hoffnung für alle

1 Ihr seid Gottes geliebte Kinder, daher sollt ihr in allem seinem Vorbild folgen. 2 Geht liebevoll miteinander um, so wie auch Christus euch seine Liebe erwiesen hat. Aus Liebe hat er sein Leben für uns gegeben, und dies war für Gott wie ein wohlriechendes Opfer, an dem er Freude hat. 3 Ihr gehört nun zu Gott. Da passt es selbstverständlich nicht mehr, sich sexuell unmoralisch zu verhalten, ausschweifend zu leben oder alles haben zu wollen. Über so etwas sollt ihr nicht einmal reden! 4 Genauso wenig ist Platz für Beleidigungen, Sticheleien oder zweideutiges Gerede. Vielmehr sollt ihr Gott danken und ihn loben. 5 Denn eins ist klar: Wer ein sexuell unmoralisches, schamloses Leben führt, für den ist kein Platz in dem Reich, in dem Gott und Christus herrschen. Das gilt auch für alle, die habgierig sind; denn Habgier ist nichts anderes als Götzendienst. 6 Lasst euch von niemandem verführen, der euch durch sein leeres Geschwätz einreden will, dass dies alles harmlos sei. Gerade mit einem solchen Verhalten ziehen die Menschen, die Gott nicht gehorchen wollen, seinen Zorn auf sich. 7 Darum macht mit solchen Leuten nicht gemeinsame Sache! 8 Früher habt auch ihr in Dunkelheit gelebt; aber heute ist das anders: Weil ihr mit dem Herrn verbunden seid, seid ihr im Licht. Darum lebt nun auch wie Menschen, die zum Licht gehören![1] 9 Ein solches Leben führt zu aufrichtiger Güte, Gerechtigkeit und Wahrheit. 10 Prüft in allem, was ihr tut, ob es Gott gefällt. 11 Lasst euch auf keine finsteren Machenschaften ein, die keine gute Frucht hervorbringen, im Gegenteil: Helft, sie aufzudecken. 12 Denn was manche im Verborgenen treiben, ist so abscheulich, dass man nicht einmal davon reden soll. 13 Doch wenn durch euch das Licht Gottes auf diese Dinge fällt, werden sie erst richtig sichtbar. 14 Was Gott ans Licht bringt, wird hell. Deshalb heißt es auch: »Erwache aus deinem Schlaf! Erhebe dich von den Toten! Und Christus wird dein Licht sein.« 15 Achtet also genau darauf, wie ihr lebt: nicht wie unwissende, sondern wie weise Menschen. 16 Nutzt die Zeit, so gut ihr könnt, denn wir leben in einer schlimmen Zeit. 17 Seid nicht verbohrt; sondern begreift, was der Herr von euch will! 18 Betrinkt euch nicht; das führt nur zu einem ausschweifenden Leben. Lasst euch vielmehr von Gottes Geist erfüllen. 19 Ermutigt einander durch Psalmen, Lobgesänge und Lieder, wie sie euch Gottes Geist schenkt. Singt für den Herrn und jubelt aus vollem Herzen! 20 Im Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus dankt Gott, dem Vater, zu jeder Zeit und für alles! 21 Ordnet euch einander unter; tut es aus Ehrfurcht vor Christus. 22 Ihr Frauen, ordnet euch euren Männern unter, so wie ihr euch dem Herrn unterordnet. 23 Denn wie Christus als Haupt für seine Gemeinde verantwortlich ist, die er erlöst und zu seinem Leib gemacht hat, so ist auch der Mann für seine Frau verantwortlich. 24 Und wie sich die Gemeinde Christus unterordnet, so sollen sich auch die Frauen in allem ihren Männern unterordnen. 25 Ihr Männer, liebt eure Frauen so, wie Christus seine Gemeinde liebt: Er hat sein Leben für sie gegeben, 26 damit sie ihm ganz gehört. Durch sein Wort hat er alle Schuld von ihr abgewaschen wie in einem reinigenden Bad.[2] 27 So sorgt er selbst dafür, dass sie zu einer schönen und makellosen Braut für ihn wird, ohne Flecken, Falten oder einen anderen Fehler, weil sie allein Christus gehören soll. 28 Darum sollen auch die Männer ihre Frauen lieben wie ihren eigenen Körper. Wer nun seine Frau liebt, der liebt sich selbst. 29 Niemand hasst doch seinen eigenen Körper. Vielmehr ernährt und pflegt er ihn. So sorgt auch Christus für seine Gemeinde; 30 denn wir sind schließlich die Glieder seines Leibes. 31 Erinnert euch an das Wort: »Ein Mann verlässt seine Eltern und verbindet sich so eng mit seiner Frau, dass die beiden eins sind mit Leib und Seele.« (Ge 2:24) 32 Das ist ein großes Geheimnis. Ich deute dieses Wort auf die Verbindung zwischen Christus und seiner Gemeinde. 33 Es gilt aber auch für euch: Ein Mann soll seine Frau so lieben wie sich selbst. Und die Frau soll ihren Mann achten.
