Gottes Bund mit Israel im Land Moab – Mahnung zur Bundestreue
1Und Mose berief ganz Israel und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr habt alles gesehen, was der HERR vor euren Augen im Land Ägypten getan hat an dem Pharao und an all seinen Knechten und an seinem ganzen Land: (2Mo 19,4; 5Mo 1,1; Ps 105,27)2die großen Prüfungen, die deine Augen gesehen haben, jene großen Zeichen und Wunder[1]. (5Mo 1,30; 5Mo 11,7; Jos 24,17; 1Sam 12,24)3Aber der HERR hat euch bis zum heutigen Tag weder ein Herz gegeben zu erkennen, noch Augen zu sehen, noch Ohren zu hören. (2Chr 20,33; Jes 6,10; Jer 5,21; Hes 12,2; Mt 13,13; Joh 12,40; Röm 11,8)4Und ich habe euch vierzig Jahre in der Wüste geführt: Eure Kleider sind nicht an euch zerschlissen, und dein Schuh an deinem Fuß ist nicht zerschlissen. (2Mo 16,35; 5Mo 2,7)5Brot habt ihr nicht gegessen, und Wein und Rauschtrank habt ihr nicht getrunken, damit ihr erkennen solltet, dass ich der HERR, euer Gott, bin. (2Mo 6,7; 5Mo 8,3; Ps 78,24)6Und als ihr an diesen Ort kamt, da zogen Sihon, der König von Heschbon, und Og, der König von Baschan, uns zum Kampf entgegen, und wir schlugen sie. (5Mo 2,33; 5Mo 3,6)7Und wir nahmen ihr Land ein und gaben es den Rubenitern und den Gaditern und dem halben Stamm der Manassiter zum Erbteil. (5Mo 3,12)8So bewahrt denn die Worte dieses Bundes und tut sie, damit ihr Erfolg habt in allem, was ihr tut! (5Mo 5,32; Jos 1,7; 1Kön 2,3)9Ihr alle steht heute vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott: eure Häupter, eure Stämme, eure Ältesten und eure Aufseher[2], alle Männer von Israel, (Jos 24,1)10eure Kinder, eure Frauen und dein Fremder, der mitten in deinem Lager ist, von deinem Holzhauer bis zu deinem Wasserschöpfer, (Jos 8,35; Jos 9,21; 1Sam 3,21; 2Chr 20,13)11damit du in den Bund des HERRN, deines Gottes, eintrittst und in seine Fluchbestimmung[3], den der HERR, dein Gott, heute mit dir schließt, (5Mo 28,69; Jos 24,25; 2Chr 15,12; Neh 10,30)12damit er dich heute zu seinem Volk erhebt und er dein Gott ist, wie er zu dir geredet und wie er deinen Vätern, Abraham, Isaak und Jakob, geschworen hat. (2Mo 6,7; 5Mo 1,8; 5Mo 26,17; 5Mo 28,9)13Doch nicht mit euch allein schließe ich diesen Bund mit dieser Fluchbestimmung[4],14sondern sowohl mit dem, der heute hier ist, der mit uns vor dem HERRN, unserm Gott, steht, als auch mit dem, der heute nicht mit uns hier ist. (5Mo 5,3; Apg 2,39)15Denn ihr wisst ja[5], wie wir im Land Ägypten gewohnt haben und wie wir mitten durch die Nationen gezogen sind, durch die ihr gezogen seid.16Da habt ihr ihre Scheusale gesehen und ihre Götzen[6] aus Holz und Stein, Silber und Gold, die bei ihnen sind.17Dass es bei euch nur ja nicht einen Mann oder eine Frau, eine Sippe oder einen Stamm gibt, dessen Herz sich heute von dem HERRN, unserm Gott, abwendet, um hinzugehen, den Göttern jener Nationen zu dienen! Dass es ja nicht eine Wurzel unter euch gibt, die Gift und Wermut als Frucht bringt, (3Mo 18,3; 5Mo 11,16; Apg 8,23; Hebr 3,12; Hebr 12,15)18– und es geschieht, wenn er die Worte dieser Fluchbestimmung[7] hört, dass er sich in seinem Herzen segnet und sagt: Ich werde Frieden haben, ⟨auch⟩ wenn ich in der Verstocktheit meines Herzens lebe[8]! –, sodass das bewässerte mit dem durstigen ⟨Land⟩ hinweggerafft wird. (Ps 10,13; Jer 23,17)19Nicht wird der HERR ihm vergeben wollen, sondern dann wird der Zorn des HERRN und sein Eifer gegen jenen Mann rauchen, und der ganze Fluch, der in diesem Buch aufgeschrieben ist, wird auf ihm liegen, und der HERR wird seinen Namen unter dem Himmel auslöschen. (5Mo 28,15; 2Kön 24,4; Hes 14,7)20Und der HERR wird ihn aus allen Stämmen Israels zum Unheil aussondern, nach all den Flüchen des Bundes, der in diesem Buch des Gesetzes geschrieben ist. (Spr 2,22)21Und die künftige Generation, eure Kinder, die nach euch aufstehen werden, und der Ausländer, der aus fernem Land kommt, werden sagen, wenn sie die Plagen dieses Landes sehen und seine Krankheiten, mit denen der HERR es geschlagen hat – (5Mo 28,59)22Schwefel und Salz, eine Brandstätte ist sein ganzes Land; es wird nicht besät und lässt nichts sprossen, und keinerlei Kraut kommt darin auf wie ⟨nach der⟩ Umkehrung von Sodom und Gomorra, ⟨von⟩ Adma und Zebojim, die der HERR umkehrte in seinem Zorn und in seinem Grimm –, (1Mo 19,24; Jer 9,11; Jer 20,16; Jer 49,18; Hos 11,8; Zef 2,9)23und alle Nationen werden sagen: Warum hat der HERR diesem Land so etwas getan? Weshalb diese große Zornglut?24Dann wird man sagen: Weil sie den Bund des HERRN, des Gottes ihrer Väter, verlassen haben, den er mit ihnen geschlossen hatte, als er sie aus dem Land Ägypten herausführte, (3Mo 26,32; 2Kön 17,15; 2Kön 18,12; Jer 31,32; Hes 16,59)25und ⟨weil sie⟩ hingingen und andern Göttern dienten und sich vor ihnen niederwarfen, ⟨vor⟩ Göttern, die sie nicht kannten und die er ihnen nicht zugeteilt hatte, (1Kön 9,8; Ps 106,36; Jer 22,8; Jer 44,3)26da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen dieses Land, sodass er den ganzen Fluch über es gebracht hat, der in diesem Buch aufgeschrieben ist.27Und der HERR hat sie herausgerissen aus ihrem Land im Zorn und im Grimm und in großem Unwillen und hat sie in ein anderes Land geworfen, wie ⟨es⟩ an diesem Tag ⟨der Fall ist⟩. – (5Mo 30,1; 1Kön 14,15; 2Kön 17,6; 2Kön 25,21; Ps 85,5; Jer 5,19)28Das Verborgene ⟨steht bei⟩ dem HERRN, unserm Gott; aber das Offenbare ⟨gilt⟩ uns und unsern Kindern für ewig, damit wir alle Worte dieses Gesetzes tun. 1Here are the terms of the covenant the LORD commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in Moab. The terms were added to the covenant he had made with them at Mount Horeb.2Moses sent for all the Israelites. Here is what he said to them. With your own eyes you have seen everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh. You have seen what he did to all Pharaoh’s officials and to his whole land.3With your own eyes you saw how the LORD really made them suffer. You saw the signs and amazing things he did.4But to this day the LORD hasn’t given you a mind that understands. He hasn’t given you eyes that see. He hasn’t given you ears that hear.5Yet the LORD says, ‘I led you through the desert for 40 years. During that time your clothes didn’t wear out. The sandals on your feet didn’t wear out either.6You didn’t eat any bread. You didn’t drink any kind of wine. I did all these things because I wanted you to know that I am the LORD your God.’7When you got here, Sihon and Og came out to fight against us. Sihon was the king of Heshbon. And Og was the king of Bashan. But we won the battle over them.8We took their land. We gave it to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh as their share.9Be careful to obey the terms of this covenant. Then you will have success in everything you do.10Today all of you are standing here in the sight of the LORD your God. Your leaders and chief men are here. Your elders and officials are here. So are all the other men of Israel.11Your children and wives are here with you too. So are the outsiders living in your camps. They chop your wood and carry your water.12All of you are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the LORD your God. He is making the covenant with you today. He’s giving you his word.13Today he wants to show you that you are his people and that he is your God. That’s what he promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.14I’m making this covenant and the promise that goes along with it. I’m making this covenant with you.15You are standing here with us today in front of the LORD our God. And I’m also making this covenant with those who aren’t here today.16You yourselves know how we lived in Egypt. You also know how we passed through other countries on the way here.17You saw the statues of their gods made out of wood, stone, silver and gold. The LORD hates those statues.18Make sure there isn’t a man or woman among your families or tribes who turns away from the LORD our God. No one must worship the gods of those nations. Make sure that kind of worship doesn’t spread like bitter poison through your whole community.19Some people who worship those gods will hear the promise that seals the covenant I’m making. They think they can escape trouble by what they’re saying. They say, ‘We’ll be safe, even though we’re stubborn and go our own way.’ But they will bring trouble on the whole land.20The LORD will never be willing to forgive those people. His great anger will blaze out against them. All the curses I’ve written down in this book will fall on them. And the LORD will erase any mention of them from the earth.21He will find those people in all the tribes of Israel and give them nothing but trouble. That will agree with all the curses of the covenant. They are written down in this Book of the Law.22Even your children’s children will see the troubles that have fallen on the land. They’ll see the diseases the LORD has brought on it. People who come from countries far away will also see those things.23The whole land will be burned. Nothing but salt and sulphur will be left. Nothing will be planted there. Nothing will grow there. In fact, nothing will even start to grow there. The land will be like Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim after they were destroyed. The LORD wiped out those cities because he was very angry.24All the nations will ask, ‘Why has the LORD done this to the land? What could have made him so very angry?’25And they will hear the answer, ‘It’s because the people living there have broken the covenant of the LORD. He’s the God of their people of long ago. He made that covenant with them when he brought them out of Egypt.26They went off and worshipped other gods. They bowed down to them. They hadn’t known anything about those gods before. The LORD hadn’t given those gods to them.27So the LORD became very angry with this land. He brought on it all the curses written down in this book.28The LORD’s anger blazed out against his people. So he pulled them up out of their land. He threw them into another land. And that’s where they are now.’29The LORD our God keeps certain things hidden. But he makes other things known to us and to our children for ever. He does it so we can obey all the words of this law.
