von SCM Verlag1So sollst du nun den HERRN, deinen Gott, lieben und sollst alle Tage seine Vorschriften halten[1] und seine Ordnungen, seine Rechtsbestimmungen und seine Gebote. (5Mo 5,1; 5Mo 6,5; 5Mo 11,13; 5Mo 13,4; 5Mo 30,6)2Und erkennt[2] heute – denn nicht mit euren Kindern ⟨rede ich⟩, die die Zucht des HERRN, eures Gottes, nicht erfahren[3] und nicht gesehen haben – seine Größe, seine starke Hand und seinen ausgestreckten Arm (2Mo 6,6; 5Mo 3,24)3und seine Zeichen und seine Taten, die er mitten in Ägypten getan hat am Pharao, dem König von Ägypten, und an seinem ganzen Land; (5Mo 1,30; Jer 32,20)4und was er getan hat an der Heeresmacht Ägyptens, an seinen Pferden und seinen Wagen, über die er das Wasser des Schilfmeeres hinfluten ließ, als sie euch nachjagten, und die der HERR ⟨so⟩ umkommen ließ bis auf diesen Tag; (2Mo 14,28)5und was er euch in der Wüste getan hat, bis ihr an diesen Ort kamt; (Ps 136,16)6und was er an Datan und Abiram getan hat, den Söhnen des Eliab, des Sohnes Rubens, wie die Erde ihren Mund aufriss und sie mitten in ganz Israel verschlang samt ihren Familien[4] und ihren Zelten und allem Bestand, der in ihrem Gefolge war. – (4Mo 16,31)7Sondern eure ⟨eigenen⟩ Augen haben das ganze große Werk des HERRN gesehen, das er getan hat. (5Mo 4,3; 5Mo 29,2; Jos 24,31)
Segen und Fluch
8So haltet das ganze Gebot, das ich dir heute befehle, damit ihr stark seid und hineinkommt und das Land in Besitz nehmt, in das ihr hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, (5Mo 4,14)9und damit ihr eure Tage verlängert in dem Land, von dem der HERR euren Vätern geschworen hat, ⟨es⟩ ihnen und ihren Nachkommen zu geben, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt. (5Mo 1,8; 5Mo 4,40; 5Mo 6,3; 5Mo 11,21)10Denn das Land, in das du kommst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, ist nicht wie das Land Ägypten, von wo ihr ausgezogen seid, wo du deine Saat sätest und mit deinem Fuß[5] wässertest wie einen Gemüsegarten,11sondern das Land, in das ihr hinüberzieht, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, ist ein Land mit Bergen und Tälern – vom Regen des Himmels trinkt es Wasser –, (1Mo 27,28; 5Mo 8,7)12ein Land, auf das der HERR, dein Gott, achthat. Beständig sind die Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes, darauf ⟨gerichtet⟩ vom Anfang des Jahres bis zum Ende des Jahres. (1Kön 9,3; Ps 65,11)13Und es wird geschehen, wenn ihr genau auf meine Gebote hört, die ich euch heute gebiete, den HERRN, euren Gott, zu lieben und ihm zu dienen mit eurem ganzen Herzen und mit eurer ganzen Seele[6],14dann gebe ich den Regen eures Landes zu seiner Zeit, den Frühregen und den Spätregen, damit du dein Getreide und deinen Most und dein Öl einsammelst. (3Mo 26,3; 5Mo 28,12; Jes 30,23; Jer 5,24; Joe 2,19; Jak 5,7)15Und ich werde für dein Vieh Kraut auf dem Feld geben, und du wirst essen und satt werden. (3Mo 26,5; 5Mo 6,11; Ps 104,14)16Nehmt euch in Acht, dass euer Herz sich nicht betören lässt und ihr abweicht und andern Göttern dient und euch vor ihnen niederwerft (5Mo 5,7; 5Mo 8,19; 5Mo 12,30; 5Mo 17,3; 5Mo 28,14; 5Mo 29,17; 5Mo 30,17; 1Sam 12,21)17und der Zorn des HERRN gegen euch entbrennt und er den Himmel verschließt, dass es keinen Regen gibt und der Erdboden seinen Ertrag nicht bringt und ihr bald aus dem guten Land weggerafft werdet, das der HERR euch gibt. (3Mo 26,19; 5Mo 6,15; 2Chr 6,26)18Und ihr sollt diese meine Worte auf euer Herz und auf eure Seele legen und sie als Zeichen auf eure Hand binden, und sie sollen als Merkzeichen zwischen euren Augen sein. (2Mo 13,9; Spr 7,3)19Und ihr sollt sie eure Kinder lehren, indem ihr davon redet, wenn du in deinem Haus sitzt und wenn du auf dem Weg gehst, wenn du dich niederlegst und wenn du aufstehst. (5Mo 4,9; 5Mo 32,46)20Und du sollst sie auf die Pfosten deines Hauses und an deine Tore schreiben, (5Mo 6,6)21damit eure Tage und die Tage eurer Kinder zahlreich werden in dem Land, von dem der HERR euren Vätern geschworen hat, ⟨es⟩ ihnen zu geben, wie die Tage des Himmels über der Erde. (Ps 89,30; Spr 3,2)22Denn wenn ihr dieses ganze Gebot, das ich euch[7] zu tun gebiete, treu haltet, indem ihr den HERRN, euren Gott, liebt, auf all seinen Wegen geht und ihm anhängt, (5Mo 19,9)23dann wird der HERR alle diese Nationen vor euch vertreiben; und ihr werdet Nationen vertreiben, größer und stärker als ihr. (5Mo 4,38; Jos 23,9)24Jeder Ort, auf den eure Fußsohle treten wird, wird euch gehören: von der Wüste und dem Libanon und vom Strom, dem Strom Euphrat an, bis an das westliche Meer wird euer Gebiet sein. (2Mo 23,31; Jos 1,3)25Kein Mensch wird vor euch bestehen. Schrecken vor euch und Furcht vor euch wird der HERR, euer Gott, auf das ganze Land legen, das ihr betreten werdet, wie er zu euch geredet hat. (5Mo 2,25; 5Mo 7,24; 1Chr 14,17)26Siehe, ich lege euch heute Segen und Fluch vor: (5Mo 30,1)27den Segen, wenn ihr den Geboten des HERRN, eures Gottes, gehorcht, die ich euch heute gebiete, (5Mo 28,2)28und den Fluch, wenn ihr den Geboten des HERRN, eures Gottes, nicht gehorcht und von dem Weg, den ich euch heute gebiete, abweicht, um andern Göttern nachzulaufen, die ihr nicht kennt. (5Mo 28,15)29Und es soll geschehen, wenn der HERR, dein Gott, dich in das Land bringt, in das du kommst, um es in Besitz zu nehmen, dann sollst du den Segen auf dem Berg Garizim erteilen und den Fluch auf dem Berg Ebal.[8] (5Mo 27,4; Jos 8,33)30Sind sie nicht jenseits des Jordan, hinter dem Weg gegen Sonnenuntergang, im Land der Kanaaniter, die in der Ebene[9] wohnen, Gilgal gegenüber, bei den Terebinthen More? (1Mo 12,6; Jos 4,19)31Denn ihr geht über den Jordan, um hineinzuziehen, das Land in Besitz zu nehmen, das der HERR, euer Gott, euch gibt; und ihr werdet es in Besitz nehmen und darin wohnen. (Jos 21,43)32Und so achtet darauf, all die Ordnungen und die Rechtsbestimmungen zu tun, die ich euch heute vorlege! (5Mo 4,1; 5Mo 13,6)
1Love the LORD your God. Do what he requires. Always obey his rules, laws and commands.2Remember today that your children weren’t the ones the LORD your God guided and corrected. They didn’t see his majesty. They weren’t in Egypt when he reached out his mighty hand and powerful arm.3They didn’t see the signs and the other things he did in Egypt. They didn’t see what he did to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his whole country.4They weren’t there when the LORD destroyed the army of Egypt and its horses and chariots. He swept the waters of the Red Sea over the Egyptians while they were chasing you. He wiped them out for ever.5Your children didn’t see what he did for you in the desert before you arrived here.6They didn’t see what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab. Eliab was from the tribe of Reuben. The earth opened its mouth right in the middle of the Israelite camp. It swallowed up Dathan and Abiram. It swallowed them up together with their families, tents and every living thing that belonged to them.7But with your own eyes you saw all the great things the LORD has done.8So obey all the commands I’m giving you today. Then you will be strong enough to go in and take over the land. You will go across the River Jordan and take the land as your own.9You will live there for a long time. It’s the land the LORD promised to give to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their children after them. He gave his word when he made that promise. The land has plenty of milk and honey.10You will enter it and take it over. It isn’t like the land of Egypt. That’s where you came from. You planted your seeds there. You had to water them, just as you have to water a vegetable garden.11But you will soon go across the River Jordan. The land you are going to take over has mountains and valleys in it. It drinks rain from heaven.12It’s a land the LORD your God takes care of. His eyes always look on it with favour. He watches over it from the beginning of the year to its end.13So be faithful. Obey the commands the LORD your God is giving you today. Love him. Serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.14Then the LORD will send rain on your land at the right time. He’ll send rain in the autumn and in the spring. You will be able to gather your corn. You will also be able to make olive oil and fresh wine.15He’ll provide grass in the fields for your cattle. You will have plenty to eat.16But be careful. Don’t let anyone tempt you to do something wrong. Don’t turn away and worship other gods. Don’t bow down to them.17If you do, the LORD will be very angry with you. He’ll close up the sky. It won’t rain. The ground won’t produce its crops. Soon you will die. You won’t live to enjoy the good land the LORD is giving you.18So keep my words in your hearts and minds. Write them down and tie them on your hands as a reminder. Also tie them on your foreheads.19Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home. Talk about them when you walk along the road. Speak about them when you go to bed. And speak about them when you get up.20Write them on the doorframes of your houses. Also write them on your gates.21Then you and your children will live for a long time in the land. The LORD promised to give the land to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Your family line will continue as long as the heavens remain above the earth.22So be careful. Obey all the commands I’m giving you to follow. Love the LORD your God. Live exactly as he wants you to live. Remain true to him.23Then the LORD will drive out all the nations to make room for you. They are larger and stronger than you are. But you will take their land.24Every place you walk on will belong to you. Your territory will go all the way from the desert to Lebanon. It will go from the River Euphrates to the Mediterranean Sea.25No one will be able to stand up against you. The LORD your God will throw the whole land into a panic because of you. He’ll do it everywhere you go, just as he promised you.26Listen to me. I’m setting a blessing and a curse in front of you today.27I’m giving you the commands of the LORD your God today. You will be blessed if you obey them.28But you will be cursed if you don’t obey them. So don’t turn away from the path I’m now commanding you to take. Don’t turn away by worshipping other gods you didn’t know before.29The LORD your God will bring you into the land to take it over. When he does, you must announce the blessings from Mount Gerizim. You must announce the curses from Mount Ebal.30As you know, those mountains are across the River Jordan. They are on the west side of the Jordan towards the setting sun. They are near the large trees of Moreh. The mountains are in the territory of the Canaanites, who live in the Arabah Valley near Gilgal.31You are about to go across the River Jordan. You will enter the land and take it over. The LORD your God is giving it to you. You will take it over and live there.32When you do, make sure you obey all the rules and laws I’m giving you today.
