Saras Tod und Begräbnis

1 Und die Lebenszeit Saras betrug 127 Jahre; ⟨das waren⟩ die Lebensjahre Saras. 2 Und Sara starb zu Kirjat-Arba, das ist Hebron, im Land Kanaan. Und Abraham ging hin, um über Sara zu klagen und sie zu beweinen. (1Mo 13,18; 1Mo 24,67; 1Mo 50,1; 4Mo 20,29; 1Sam 25,1)

3 Dann stand Abraham auf ⟨und ging⟩ weg von seiner Toten und redete zu den Söhnen Het: (1Mo 10,15) 4 Ein Fremder und Beisasse^[1] bin ich bei euch. 5 Da antworteten die Söhne Het dem Abraham und sagten zu ihm: 6 Höre uns an, mein Herr! Du bist ein Fürst Gottes unter uns, begrabe deine Tote in dem auserlesensten unserer Gräber! Keiner von uns wird dir sein Grab verweigern, deine Tote zu begraben. 7 Da erhob sich Abraham und verneigte sich vor dem Volk des Landes, vor den Söhnen Het. 8 Und er redete zu ihnen und sagte: Wenn es euer Wille ist, dass ich meine Tote begrabe von meinem Angesicht hinweg, so hört mich an und legt Fürsprache für mich ein bei Efron, dem Sohn Zohars, 9 dass er mir die Höhle Machpela gibt, die ihm gehört, die am Ende seines Feldes ⟨liegt⟩; zum vollen Kaufpreis^[3] gebe er sie mir zu einem Erbbegräbnis^[4] in eurer Mitte! 10 Efron aber saß^[5] mitten unter den Söhnen Het. Und Efron, der Hetiter, antwortete dem Abraham vor den Ohren der Söhne Het, vor allen, die ins Tor seiner Stadt gekommen waren, und sagte: (1Mo 34,24) 11 Nein, mein Herr, höre mir zu! Das Feld schenke^[6] ich dir; und die Höhle, die darauf ist, dir schenke^[7] ich sie; vor den Augen der Kinder meines Volkes schenke^[8] ich sie dir. Begrabe deine Tote! (Rut 4,4) 12 Da verneigte sich Abraham vor dem Volk des Landes; 13 und er redete zu Efron vor den Ohren des Volkes des Landes und sagte: Ach, wenn du doch auf mich hören wolltest! Ich gebe ⟨dir⟩ den Kaufpreis^[9] des Feldes. Nimm ihn von mir an, dass ich meine Tote dort begraben kann! 14 Da antwortete Efron dem Abraham und sagte zu ihm: 15 Mein Herr, höre mich an! Ein Land von vierhundert Schekel Silber, was ist das zwischen mir und dir? So begrabe deine Tote! (1Mo 33,19) 16 Und Abraham hörte auf Efron; und Abraham wog dem Efron das Geld^[10] dar, von dem er vor den Ohren der Söhne Het geredet hatte, vierhundert Schekel Silber, wie es beim Händler gängig ist. (2Sam 24,24; Jer 32,9) 17 So fiel das Feld Efrons, das bei Machpela gegenüber von^[11] Mamre ⟨liegt⟩, das Feld und die Höhle, die darauf war, und alle Bäume auf dem Feld innerhalb seiner ganzen Grenze ringsum 18 als Besitz an Abraham vor den Augen der Söhne Het, vor allen, die ins Tor seiner Stadt gekommen waren. (1Mo 34,24) 19 Und danach begrub Abraham seine Frau Sara in der Höhle des Feldes von Machpela, gegenüber von Mamre, das ist Hebron, im Land Kanaan. Sarah dies

1 Sarah lived to be 127 years old. 2 She died at Kiriath Arba. Kiriath Arba is also called Hebron. It’s in the land of Canaan. Sarah’s death made Abraham very sad. He went to the place where her body was lying. There he wept over her. 3 Then Abraham got up from beside his wife’s body. He said to the Hittites, 4 ‘I’m an outsider. I’m a stranger among you. Sell me some property where I can bury those in my family who die. Then I can bury my wife.’ 5 The Hittites replied to Abraham, 6 ‘Sir, listen to us. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your wife in the best place we have to bury our dead. None of us will refuse to sell you a place to bury her.’ 7 Then Abraham bowed down in front of the Hittites, the people of the land. 8 He said to them, ‘If you are willing to let me bury my wife, then listen to me. Speak to Zohar’s son Ephron for me. 9 Ask him to sell me the cave of Machpelah. It belongs to him and is at the end of his field. Ask him to sell it to me for the full price. I want it as a place to bury my dead wife among you.’ 10 Ephron the Hittite was sitting there among his people. He replied to Abraham. All of the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city heard him. 11 ‘No, sir,’ Ephron said. ‘Listen to me. I will give you the field. I’ll also give you the cave that’s in the field. I will give it to you in front of my people. Bury your wife.’ 12 Again Abraham bowed down in front of the people of the land. 13 He spoke to Ephron so they could hear him. He said, ‘Please listen to me. I’ll pay the price of the field. Accept it from me. Then I can bury my wife there.’ 14 Ephron answered Abraham, 15 ‘Sir, listen to me. The land is worth 5 kilograms of silver. But what’s that between the two of us? Bury your wife.’ 16 Abraham agreed to Ephron’s offer. He weighed out for Ephron the price he had named. The Hittites there had heard the amount. The price was 5 kilograms of silver. Abraham measured it by the weights that were used by merchants. 17 So Ephron sold his field to Abraham. The field was in Machpelah near Mamre. Abraham bought the field and the cave that was in it. He also bought all the trees that were inside the borders of the field. Everything was sold 18 to Abraham as his property. He bought it in front of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of the city. 19 Then Abraham buried his wife Sarah. He buried her in the cave in the field of Machpelah near Mamre in the land of Canaan. Mamre is at Hebron. 20 So the field and the cave that was in it were sold to Abraham by the Hittites. The property became a place to bury those who died in his family.
