The visionof Isaiahthe sonof Amoz, which he sawconcerning Judahand Jerusalemin the daysof Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kingsof Judah.
Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORDhath spoken, I have nourishedand brought upchildren, and they have rebelled against me.
The oxknowethhis owner, and the asshis master'crib: but Israeldoth not know, my peopledoth not consider.
Ahsinfulnation, a peopleladenwith iniquity, a seedof evildoers, childrenthat are corrupters: they have forsakenthe LORD, they have provokedthe Holy Oneof Israelunto anger, they are gone awaybackward.
Why should ye be strickenany more? ye will revoltmore and more: the whole headis sick, and the whole heartfaint.
From the soleof the footeven unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifyingsores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollifiedwith ointment.
Your country is desolate, your cities are burnedwith fire: your land, strangersdevour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrownby strangers.
And the daughterof Zionis leftas a cottagein a vineyard, as a lodgein a garden of cucumbers, as a besiegedcity.
Exceptthe LORDof hostshad leftunto us a very smallremnant, we should have beenas Sodom, and we should have been likeunto Gomorrah.
Hearthe wordof the LORD, ye rulersof Sodom; give earunto the lawof our God, ye peopleof Gomorrah.
To what purpose is the multitudeof your sacrificesunto me? saiththe LORD: I am fullof the burnt offeringsof rams, and the fatof fed beasts; and I delightnot in the bloodof bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
When ye cometo appearbeforeme, who hath requiredthis at your hand, to treadmy courts?
Bringno morevainoblations; incenseis an abominationunto me; the new moonsand sabbaths, the callingof assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
Your new moonsand your appointed feastsmy soulhateth: they are a troubleunto me; I am wearyto bear them .
And when ye spread forthyour hands, I will hidemine eyesfrom you: yea, when ye make manyprayers, I will not hear: your handsare fullof blood.
Washyou, make you clean; put awaythe evilof your doingsfrom beforemine eyes; ceaseto do evil;
Learnto do well; seekjudgment, relievethe oppressed, judgethe fatherless, pleadfor the widow.
Come now, and let us reason together, saiththe LORD: though your sinsbe as scarlet, they shall be as whiteas snow; though they be redlike crimson, they shall be as wool.
If ye be willingand obedient, ye shall eatthe goodof the land:
But if ye refuseand rebel, ye shall be devouredwith the sword: for the mouthof the LORDhath spoken it .
How is the faithfulcitybecome an harlot! it was fullof judgment; righteousnesslodgedin it; but now murderers.
Thy silveris become dross, thy winemixedwith water:
Thy princes are rebellious, and companionsof thieves: every one lovethgifts, and followethafter rewards: they judgenot the fatherless, neither doth the causeof the widowcome unto them.
Therefore saiththe Lord, the LORDof hosts, the mighty Oneof Israel, Ah, I will easeme of mine adversaries, and avengeme of mine enemies:
And I will turnmy handupon thee, and purelypurge awaythy dross, and take awayall thy tin:
And I will restorethy judgesas at the first, and thy counsellorsas at the beginning: afterwardthou shalt be called, The cityof righteousness, the faithfulcity.
Zionshall be redeemedwith judgment, and her convertswith righteousness.
And the destructionof the transgressorsand of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsakethe LORDshall be consumed.
For they shall be ashamedof the oakswhich ye have desired, and ye shall be confoundedfor the gardensthat ye have chosen.
For ye shall be as an oakwhose leaffadeth, and as a gardenthat hath no water.
And the strongshall be as tow, and the makerof it as a spark, and they shall bothburntogether, and none shall quench them .
